When it comes to recycling metal, metal separation recycling equipment is the way to go. There is no better method for metal separation than overband magnets. Not only are they incredibly efficient, but they are also easy to install, simple to maintain, and there are a number of great options to choose from to suit any setup.
Essentially, overband magnets work by separating large quantities of metal or non-ferrous metals from other materials and ferrous metals. Hanging above a conveyor belt or picking station, the powerful magnets pull out anything they are attracted to, splitting out anything that needs to be separated. Overall, you can expect their efficiency to reach 90%, depending on the product flow and the design and location of the magnets. This makes them a very effective option for separating metals at recycling plants or in industries that require this kind of recycling machinery.
There are a few different types of overband magnets available, built to suit any need. These include:
Ferrite overband magnets are the most affordable metal separation solution. They’re well suited to thin and thick layers, and they also don’t need a control box. They are available in a range of belt widths, come in in-line or transverse versions for simple installation, and are incredibly reliable.
Neodymium is a more lightweight and compact option for overband magnets and is excellent for fine fractions in thin layers. They are also a good solution for separating metals that don’t have the strongest magnetic pull. Often used with mobile installations, neodymium magnets have no need for a control box, and they can come fitted with a hydro-motor.
Electro overband magnets are heavy and robust and the most powerful type of overband magnet available. The deeply penetrating magnet makes them suitable for even the thickest layers, although, unlike others, they require a control box. This will allow the magnet to be turned on and off, which helps when it comes time for maintenance or service.
Eddy current separators are robust non-ferrous separators that can separate non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminium from other metals and materials. Much like with the other examples, any non-ferrous metal products will be pulled from the conveyor by the magnets, allowing the other non-metal products to continue on the conveyor.
